This is another page of the Mighty MitchMan's songs and poems I hope visitors will enjoy.

"Life Is What You Make It" is another song written with my Ebony Lady in mind.  She was so incredibly supportive.  She encouraged me to believe that I could succeed in whatever I did.  Too bad I failed at our relationship.  Oh, if I could just go back and do it right this time . . . . .

“LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT”
Keepin’ this job so long
Is the hardest thing I’ve done.
Gettin’ up early each mornin’,
Before the risin’ sun.
But now that I’ve found you,
Things haven’t been so bad.
‘Cause your love and understanding
Are the best things I ever had.

Bridge:
Life is what you make it,
And you can make it bitter or sweet.
Life is what you make it,
And you’ve  made my life complete.
Since my life is what you’ve made it
And I’ve been given a brand new start,
I wanna give to you what you’ve given to me,
But you only want my heart.

Workin’ hard all my life,
Been doin’ the best I can.
I have loved and lost before,
Thought I’d never love again.
My life was full of pain,
Thought I needed no one,
But with your love and understanding,
Good things have just begun.

Repeat Bridge:

You showed me how to give,
You were one who understood.
You showed me how to love again,
I thought that no one could.
You came into my life,
And you showed me the way,
And with love and understanding
Oh, this is why I say:

Repeat bridge and fade out.

“AIN’T GOIN’ BACK"
Take a look around you,
But don’t say things are right.
Your eyes may be wide open,
But can you see the light?
I don’t know where we’re goin’,
But I know where we’ve been,
And I can tell ya, brother,
We ain’t goin’ back again.

Chorus:
Hey now, let me say, now,
I’m talkin’ to ya as a friend.
Hey now, don’t turn away, now,
‘Cause we ain’t goin’ back again.

Now that we’ve tried your way,
Look at where we’ve gone.
Livin’ in fear and hatred,
Confusin’ right from wrong.
Well, now, I just can’t believe,
But I can surely see,
Your way, it ain’t my way.
Don’t wave your flag at me.

Extended Chorus:
Well, now, I just can’t believe
It could ever be justified.
‘Cause in the name of freedom
Lotta good folks have died.
Hey now, let me say now,
I’m talkin’ to ya as a friend.
Hey now, don’t turn away, now,
’Cause we ain’t goin’ back again.

“CHILDREN, LEAD US”
See the children playing in the meadow,
Laughing so happily ‘cause
They don’t know any better.
But before their lives
Are too long passed,
They’ll come to know
This world at last,
And they’ll pay no heed
To their fathers and their mothers,
As they see what’s happening
To their sisters and their  brothers.

They’ll wonder why they must
Die in a senseless war,
When all the good patriots
Don’t seem to care any more.
And when they rebel against
A distorted education,
They’ll be shot down
As enemies of the nation.
And they’ll begin to wonder
About the ‘Land of the Free’,
As they see what happens
To those who disagree.

But with the children is
A brighter hope for tomorrow,
With a little more love,
And a lot less sorrow.
But before we reach
This higher evolution,
And see that love
Is the only solution.
The children must fight
And the children must win,
And the children will lead
Us into peace again.

"When I'm Gone" is my first record that was released and received airplay on a few radio stations.

“WHEN I’M GONE”
You can turn your back on me,
But, girl, don’t be surprised to see
That before too long, I’ll be on my way.
I never meant to make you blue,
But I think that deep inside you knew
I’d be gone and leave you alone some day.
But you’ll probably feel a whole lot  better
When I’m gone.

I don’t think I’ll say good-bye now,
I couldn’t bear to see you cry now.
I’ll pack my bags, leave quietly in the night.
I hope you don’t think ill of me,
But open your eyes and try to see
Once again, your days will soon be bright.
And you’ll probably feel a whole lot better
When I’m gone.

Oh, girl, forget the good times we had,
Memories of a lost love are often sad,
But it’s always best to forget.
I must be on my way now,
And I hope that soon someday now,
You’ll think of me without regret.
‘Cause you’ll probably feel a whole lot better
When I’m gone.

“YOUR OWN BACKYARD”
Let go of my hand,
I don’t want to argue again.
You don’t seem to believe
That I want to be me,
And not some image
That you think I should be.

I don’t want your parties or your games;
Don’t want your people or friends,
All faces with no names.
Everyone trying to be someone else,
When all I want
Is to be myself.

I want to be myself,
To be my own man,
To walk my own path,
And to understand.
But, baby, why don’t
You come along, too?
You know your fine friends
Would never miss you.

You’ve sold your soul
For a split-level home,
And you look around,
But all your friends are gone.
And as you wonder
Where everyone went,
I hope you discover
Just what I meant:

You judge your neighbor
And you judge him hard,
When you’d better look around
In your own backyard.

"Wake Me When It's Over" is still a work in progress.  It was started about 24 years ago, and has yet to be completed.  It was written for the woman who had a more profound impact upon my life than anyone I have ever known, "My Ebony Lady".  The anger and pain I felt after our breakup was excruciating.  The feeling I had for her is still as intense as it ever was.  The anger has abated, but the pain has not.

"Wake Me When It's Over"
The cold dark night is waning,
I see the light of the rising sun,
But in my heart it's raining,
'Cause the pain has just begun.
I don't want to face another day,
I don't want to get out of bed.
If it has to end this way,
Then I might as well be dead.

Chorus:

Wake me when this long night's over,
Wake me when this nightmare's thru,
Wake me when my heart has mended,
Wake me when I'm over you.

I didn't think it would end like this,
Why is love never what it seems?
I long for the touch of another kiss,
If but only in my dreams.
I have memories of far better days
When you were my shining light,
But I guess that it was just a phase
To help make it through the night.

Repeat Chorus:
